Shirley Fletcher

Bio

Painting and print-making are Shirley Fletcher’s passions. She has been painting for over 30 years and runs a popular Life Drawing Class in her home town of Saltburn.

She has many inspirations for her work – the North Yorkshire coastline, the moors, but other paintings are from the borderland world of our dreams.

Oil paint is her primary means of expression.  Of the numerous forms of printmaking, Shirley finds collography the nearest to painting in its craft aspect.  Painting with a stiff glue gives a relief image which, when the ink is wiped from the surface and left in the hollows, gives a comparable depth of tone along with the impression of the texture of the brushstrokes.

Shirley’s collographs give a great depth of colour.
