Bio

Michael has painted from a very early age, he studied at Stourbridge College of Art, and spent his early career as a studio technician and graphic artist in Hay on Wye.

Michael returned to the Midlands to concentrate on painting, landscape and portrait, finally becoming professional in 2002, working with oils. He uses colour and light to create an atmosphere or mood rather than the painting to look like a recording.

He paints in two ways, in situ (plein air) in pochade mode, quick and full of spontaneity, many are finished paintings in themselves, others may be used for a more considered approach in the studio.

The North Yorkshire coast has been a particular inspiration for Michael for many years. Michael now lives in Whitby and can be seen out and about in the area painting.

Michael is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists.
